I Like Cool Tapes

Welcome to I Like Cool Tapes.

Our mission is to document and celebrate the lost art of the mix tape. Anyone who grew up in the 1980’s has in some way been affected by this wondrous cultural phenomenon. Every cassette has a story. The mix tape was sometimes made for one’s own enjoyment, but much more frequently it was made for another. This exchange, from the maker to the listener, could be representative of many things: love, alliance, heartbreak, any range of human bond or emotion.

The purpose of this site is to tell the story of these relics.

We are currently seeking images of tapes and the stores that accompany them from friends family and complete strangers. Please don’t be shy. Upload your scanned tape. It is easy and we will be pleased to present your contribution to an interested audience.
